KEY STORYLINES
Marquette continues play this week within the Blue Division with Wednesday's home match against Notre Dame. Notre Dame was ranked as high as No. 10 this season in the national polls, but has since dropped out of the top-25 despite three of its four losses coming against teams ranked in the top-10. The Fighting Irish have won four straight over Marquette. Wednesday will mark the Golden Eagles' second televised game (Time Warner Sports32) of the season and the final match of MU's current four-game homestand.
SERIES HISTORY
Notre Dame has a 10-6-3 all-time advantage over Marquette. Since their rivalry was restored in 2005, MU has dropped its last four decisions to the Irish, including a 4-1 setback to a then No. 5-ranked Notre Dame squad last season. Marquette's last win over Notre Dame came in 1990 when the Golden Eagles cruised to a 4-0 victory in Milwaukee.
LAST TIME OUT
Marquette fell to West Virginia 1-0 at Valley Fields on Saturday, Oct. 3. The Mountaineers capitalized off their fifth corner kick of the evening when Jason Bristol recovered a loose ball in front of the net and beat MU goalkeeper Matt Pyzdrowski top shelf for the decisive score in the 74th minute.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Senior forward Bright Dike (pronounced DEE-kay) leads a Notre Dame offense that comes into Wednesday's contest ranked No. 29 in scoring with 19 goals in 10 games played. The Soccer America Second-Team Preseason All-American and BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, is currently tied for the league lead in goals (6) and points (14). CAUTIONS SIDELINE GOLDEN EAGLES
Marquette will be without the services of sophomore Calum Mallace and junior Anthony Colaizzi when the squad takes to Valley Fields for Wednesday's locally televised match against Notre Dame. Colaizzi picked up a pair of yellow cards against West Virginia this past Saturday. By NCAA?rules, the second yellow card in a match automatically becomes a red card; therefore, Colaizzi must sit out of MU's next contest. Per NCAA?rules, a player must also sit out a match after accumulating five yellow cards in a season. Mallace's caution Saturday against the Mountaineers was his fifth.
