MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University track and field squad finished competition at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships Sunday afternoon in New York City with a few athletes placing their names in the MU record books.
"I would say the highlight of the day was the running of the relays," said head coach Bert Rogers. "The women's 4x800 relay team ran very well and recorded the second best time at Marquette. The men's 4x800 team also ran well, recording the best time in 27 years in the event."
In the 3,000-meter run, junior Jayne Grebinski finished 10th while recording a personal-record time of 9:40.19, which gives her the third best indoor time in MU history. Anna Weber also recorded a personal-best 9:58.22 in the event and Laurie Dalrymple finished 21st.
The women's 4x800-meter relay team, after recording a school record in the event last year at the BIG EAST meet, registered the second best time in school history with a time of 8:59.84. In the race Sarah Verdoliva ran the first leg, followed by Katlin Millin, Dani Owen and Olivia Johnson.
On the men's side, school-record holder Tyler O'Brien finished seventh in the 200 meters at a time of 22.16.
Mark Kopecki recorded a 12th place finish in the mile with a time of 4:16.33, while Eric Meissner finished 15th in the 800 with a time of 1:55.94.
In the men's relays the 4x800-meter squad recorded the fourth best time in MU history, crossing the finish line in 7:37.06 to finish sixth. Kopecki ran the lead leg, followed by Billy Schlottke, Blake Johnson and Meissner.
