Track and Field Concludes Action at Meyo Invitational

MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette track and field squad concluded competition Saturday afternoon at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame.
"This meet was another good step in the right direction," said head coach Bert Rogers. " A lot of folks stepped up and we had some good things happen."
For the women, Olivia Johnson and Sarah Verdoliva each recorded BIG EAST qualifying times in the 800-meters with times of 2:15.27 and 2:15.67, respectively. Their times were both season highs as well.
In the 3,000, Jayne Grebinski was the first MU runner to record a sub-10 minute time this season, finishing in 9:57.02, a good six seconds under the BIG EAST mark. Freshman Kate Horan also recorded her fastest time of the season in the event, finishing 39th out of a field of 62.
Sophomore Alyssa Davis recorded a personal best in the triple jump and recorded a BIG EAST distance for the second straight meet. Her leap of 11.84 meters (38-10.25) moved her to third place on the Marquette triple jump list.
On the men's side, school record holder Tyler O'Brien recorded a BIG EAST time in the 200, finishing 16th in a time of 22.19.
Running in his first 500-meters of the season, Eric Meissner ran a personal-best 1:04.91, reaching a BIG EAST mark. In the 800, Meissner shaved over a second off his personal best as he reached another BIG EAST time to finish 13th in 1:51.90.
Mark Kopecki set a personal best in the mile, reaching a BIG EAST qualifying time in 4:13.51.
The Golden Eagles return to action Friday at the Hoosier Hills Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
