The Marquette University men's basketball team continues its season-opening four-game homestand when the squad welcomes Bucknell to the Bradley Center at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon for an opening-round matchup in the 2010 O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE?Classic. The 12-team event includes subregional, regional and championship rounds. Offense Clicks In Season-Opening Win
Marquette posted a 97-58 victory over Prairie View A&M Friday night at the Bradley Center in the regular-season opener, the most points the team has scored in a campaign lidlifter since it netted 98 against the Panthers to begin 1991-92 (MU won 98-55).
Five players reached double figures for the Golden Eagles in Friday's win, including a trio who saw action off the bench. Forward Jimmy Butler led the way with 18 points and freshman forward Davante Gardner chipped in 17 in just 13 minutes of action.
Marquette Hoping To Continue Tourney Success
Marquette is hoping to continue a trend of recent success in regular-season tournaments when the team competes in the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE?Classic this season.
Marquette will play a total of four games in the 12-team event. The Golden Eagles downed Duke in 2006, the program's most recent appearance in the CBE event. MU has claimed three titles since 2004-05 and advanced to the final game in three other events. Two of the wins have come in overtime and at one point the Golden Eagles had claimed 12-straight victories in those annual tournaments.
The Golden Eagles are 17-3 overall since 2004-05 in multi-team events, including a trio of championships at the BCA Classic (2005), Great Alaska Shootout (2006) and CBE Classic (2007).
MU appeared in the championship contest of the EA?Sports Maui Invite (2008), Chicago Invitational (2009) and the Old Spice Classic (2010).
