MILWAUKEE - In the first spring exhibition game, the Marquette men's soccer team tallied a 1-0 win over Illinois-Chicago on Saturday at Valley Fields.
Freshman Andy Huftalin came off the bench to score the game-winner in the 75th minute, from an assist by junior Anthony Colaizzi. Play advanced up the field from freshman Ryan Robb to sophomore Amilcar Herrera before finding Colazzi and Huftalin for the lone goal of the match.
"There were some mighty improvements from some of the guys, especially in their tactical decision making, and their fitness and physical preparation," said head coach Louis Bennett. "We were creating some good chances and we were moving the ball, and that was a positive. Finishing the chances and the consistency is something that I hope we'll work out over the rest of the spring."
The Golden Eagles will travel to Minnesota the last weekend of March before returning to Milwaukee for spring exhibitions against UW-Parkside, UW-Whitewater and NIU. MU will host the Wisconsin Division One Spring Cup on April 25th, bringing in Wisconsin, Green Bay and Milwaukee for the one-day event.
