MILWAUKEE - As preseason training camp looms near, many members of the Marquette women's soccer team continue to be active with their respective club and USL teams as the summer winds down. The week is critical for many as they contend for national titles.
Karissa Miller, Rachel Brown and Carly Smith helped the U19 Eclipse Select capture the USYSA Region II Championship recently while outscoring its opposition 20-4. Eclipse Select will play for the U19 National Championship in Overland Park, Kan., July 21-25. The tournament will begin in a round-robin format with the top two teams meeting in the championship on Sunday, July 25.
Lauren Acree, Ally Miller, Katie Hishmeh, Stephanie Vasos, Kate Reigle, Cara Jacobson and Emily Jacobson won four straight games with FC Milwaukee in the Women's Premier Soccer League to clinch the Midwest North Division Title and own home field advantage in the WPSL Playoffs. FC Milwaukee will play FSA Freedom in the quarterfinals Saturday, July 24 at FC Milwaukee Park in Germantown. The winner advances to the semifinals in Dallas, Texas July 31-Aug. 1. FC Milwaukee defeated Ohio Premier Elite, 5-4, in penalty kicks to earn its berth in the quarterfinals. Acree, Reigle and Cara Jacobson all converted their penalty kicks to advance.
Ashley Bares, Rachael Sloan and Lindsey Page continue to find success as members of the W-League's Chicago Red Eleven. The trio will look to help the Red Eleven to the conference championship and berth in the 2010 W-League Final Four scheduled for July 29-31 in Santa Clarita, Calif. The Red Eleven, who finished second in the Midwest Division behind the Buffalo Flash will take on the Ottawa Fury, the seed out of the Great Lakes Division, on Saturday, July 24 at 8 p.m., in Buffalo, N.Y. The winner advances to Sunday's conference final.
Lisa Philbin won the Region I championship with her U23 FC Delco Fury team, and will be competing at the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) Nationals in Kansas City July 23-25. Rosie Malone-Povolny's U23 Woodbury Soccer Club will also be competing at USASA Nationals in Kansas City and will play Philbin's FC Delco Fury Team in the first round of play.
Also competing at USASA Nationals is Natalie Kulla, who just returned from helping the U.S. U23 Women's National Team win the Four Nations Tournament, with JB Marine SC (St. Louis).
