MILWAUKEE -- Four members of the Golden Eagles men's soccer team -- Scott Miller, Hector Navarro, Matt Stummer and Michael Alfano -- celebrated their graduation this past weekend at Marquette University commencement ceremonies.
Alfano graduated Magna cum laude with a cumulative grade point average over 3.8. He has already enrolled in graduate school at Marquette and plans to use his fourth and final year of athletic eligibilty in 2011.
Scott Miller, who also has eligibilty remaining but chose to retire from competitive athletics, graduated Cum laude. Miller was one of the headline speakers at the annual Marquette Athletics Senior Banquet held last Friday at Alumni Memorial Union.
Miller also was awarded the Dr. Charles R. Eichenberger Inspirational Award, an honor that has been awarded just five times previously in the history of Marquette Athletics.
Men's soccer was recognized again during Friday's event, which was attended by MU athletic director Steve Cottingham and outgoing school president Father Wild, when Stummer was presented with the Ralph H. Metcalfe, Sr. Outstanding Senior Male Leadership & Service Award.
December graduate Keenan Flynn, who last week accepted a position as goalkeeper coach at Wright State University, was also on hand to attend Friday's banquet and the weekend's graduation festivities. Fellow December grad Anthony Colaizzi was not around as he is currently playing for the Des Moines Menace.
