Marquette Tops Creighton In Straight Sets, 3-0

MILWAUKEE - Senior Ciara Jones notched a game-high 11 kills to help the Marquette University women's volleyball team beat Creighton in straight sets, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20, at D.J. Sokol Arena Saturday night. The Golden Eagles improve to 4-3 on the season.
Jones, who was named to the all-tournament team along with teammate Danielle Carlson, hit .455 in the match. Carlson and Courtney Mrotek each tallied 10 kills a piece to help the Golden Eagles. MU outhit the Bluejays .286 to .109 in the match.
Libero Julie Jeziorowski had 19 digs in the victory and freshman Chelsea Heier collected 41 assists as well as four digs to propel Marquette to a second place finish in the tournament going 2-1 on the weekend.
Creighton (2-6) dropped the first set 25-18 as the Bluejays hit .029 to fall behind early. Bluejay senior Laurel Sanford had nine kills and hit .316 in the game dropping Creighton to a 1-2 finish in the invitational.
The Golden Eagles return to the Al McGuire Center for their home opener on Friday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. against Southern Mississippi in the opening match of the Marquette/UW-Milwaukee Invitational.
