MILWAUKEE - This week's GoMarquette.com Student-Athlete of the Week is Jae Crowder after the 2012 BIG EAST Player of the Year was selected 34th overall in the National Basketball Association Draft Thursday evening.
Crowder was the fourth pick of the second round by the Cleveland Cavaliers before his rights were traded to the Dallas Mavericks. Teammate Darius Johnson-Odom was also selected with the 55th pick marking the first time since 1983 that two Marquette players were picked in the same draft.
The Villa Rica, Ga., native averaged 17.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game this season, helping Marquette to a 27-8 overall record and a program-best 14-4 mark in the BIG EAST. He ranked among the national leaders in steals per contest and was among the league leaders in seven different categories. He was also one of 10 players named to the John R. Wooden Award All-American Team and was also tabbed Second Team All-America by the Associated Press.
Crowder joins Johnson-Odom, Jimmy Butler and Lazar Hayward as MU players selected in the NBA Draft over the last three years.
