Samantha Kennedy Earns Student-Athlete of the Week

MILWAUKEE - This week's GoMarquette.com Student-Athlete of the Week is sophomore thrower Samantha Kennedy who captured a gold medal Saturday morning in the women's hammer throw at the 2012 Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Kennedy topped the field with a toss of 50.85 meters (166 feet, 10 inches) to claim the event title over 10 other competitors. The event runner up notched a distance of 48.89 meters, roughly two meters shy of Kennedy's mark.
The Surrey, British Columbia native completed her first campaign at Marquette in 2011-12 as the program's freshman record holder in the hammer throw with a personal best throw of 181 feet (55.18 meters).
