MILWAUKEE - Marquette University redshirt sophomore Charlie Lyon was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week after recording his second- and third-straight shutouts over the weekend, the league announced Monday.
The Golden Eagles remained perfect on the season, moving to 4-0-0 overall, following a 1-0 decision against UIC this past Friday in which Lyon made four saves. He also kept the ball out of the back of the net in a 2-0 victory at Drake on Sunday.
Lyon and the Marquette defense have now held their opponents scoreless for the last 290 minutes going back to the season-opening win over Milwaukee on Aug. 24.
A native of St. Charles, Ill., Lyon officially took over as the Golden Eagles' starting goalkeeper at the start of this season after sitting out his first year on campus due to injury and appearing in just three matches as a redshirt freshman in 2011.
The MU keeper now has three career shutouts in five career starts between the posts.
