
Three Men's Soccer Players Named NSCAA All-Region

MILWAUKEE - Three members of the Marquette University men's soccer team were named to the NSCAA/Continental Tire Men's NCAA Division I All-Great Lakes Region Team it was announced this week.
Redshirt sophomores C. Nortey and Axel Sjoberg received first- and second-team honors, respectively, while redshirt junior Charlie Lyon earned third-team accolades.
Nortey completed his second season of play for the Golden Eagles as MU's active career leader in goals (19) and career points (42). The Ghanaian striker was named to the 2013 All-BIG EAST Conference First Team after leading the Marquette with a single-season career high 10 goals, including a seven game-winners, and 22 points.
Sjoberg, a 6-foot-7 central defender from Stockholm, Sweden, led MU's backline, which has boasted a combined 20 clean sheets in the last two seasons. He was a 2013 All-BIG EAST First Team selection and received Capital One Academic All-District honors. Sjoberg was honored as the Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the 2013 BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship, including all-tournament accolades. Sjoberg has 28 career points for the Golden Eagles, including 11 career goals.
Lyon, a native of St. Charles, Ill., is currently MU's all-time career leader in goals against average (0.86). For the second straight year, he matched Marquette's single-season school record with 10 shutouts during the 2013 campaign. Lyon was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America First Team, in addition to being recognized as the Co-BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year an All-BIG EAST First Team selection.
Marquette finished the 2013 season as BIG EAST Conference regular-season and tournament champions with a 13-6-2 record. This season marked MU's second straight trip to the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, its third overall appearance, advancing to the Round of 16 for the first time in program history.

The NSCAA is the world's largest soccer coaches' organization with members at every level of the game. The membership is primarily made up of coaches, but also includes administrators, referees and others in the soccer industry.
