MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's track team will open indoor season at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's John Tierney Triangular meet at the Klotsche Center on Friday, Jan. 17. The Golden Eagles will go head-to-head with meet-host UW-Milwaukee and the University of Illinois-Chicago.
Field events are scheduled to begin with the men's shot put at 5 p.m. At approximately 7:30 p.m., the women's 60-meter hurdles will commence events on the track. Doors for the meet will open at 3:30 p.m.
"I am excited to get the full team back in action," Marquette head track and field coach Bert Rogers said. "We have a number of new faces and this is a good opportunity to see what they can do. The dual meets with UWM have been good for us and adding UIC to the mix will really round out the fields and make every event competitive. The team scores usually come right down to the 4x400-meter relay and with a number of parents and alumni that will be in attendance, the atmosphere in the Klotsche Center should be great."
Separate and combined men's and women's dual scoring will be used. The top-two competitors from each program will score in individual events, and only one relay team will score per school. Individual events will be scored 5-3-2-1, and relays will be 5-3.
Friday marks the first time that Marquette has competed at the Klotsche Center since Jan. 20, 2012 in a dual meet. The men's team defeated the Panthers 72-68, while the women fell 72-67.
Two Klotsche Center records were set by the Golden Eagles during competition, one being a 4:08.42-mile recorded by Jack Hackett, and the second coming in the 4x400-meter relay by Katie Kemmerer, Jenny Zahn, Gretchen Homan and Stephanie Grant with a time of 3:54.24.
Following Friday's meet at Milwaukee, MU returns to action on Jan. 25 at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational in Madison, Wis.
