
MU Drops a 5-2 Decision at Xavier

The Marquette University women's tennis squad (9-6) fell to Xavier, 5-2 on Saturday evening in its first match against a conference opponent this season.
The Golden Eagles trailed after Xavier claimed the opening doubles point. No. 3 doubles tandem Diana Tokar and Paula Tormos Sanchez won their match, 8-3 to open the match.
Marquette faltered in singles play on courts 1-4, but saw Tormos Sanchez handle her opponent in the No. 5 position easily, 6-0, 6-4, while Vanessa Foltinger also made quick work of her opponent on the No. 6 court, 6-4, 6-0.
Erin Gebes opened her No. 2 doubles match winning the first set, 6-4, but fell in the second, 6-4 and could not hang on in the tiebreak, falling 7-6.
MU will have a short rest before heading back to the court as the squad takes on former conference foe, Cincinnati at 11 a.m. Central time.
