EDMONTON, Alberta -- Former Marquette University attackman Tyler Melnyk and the Edmonton Rush earned an 11-10 win over the Toronto Rock on Friday evening to claim its first National Lacrosse League Champion's Cup title, sweeping the best-of-three series 2-0.
Melnyk, a rookie attackman, did not see action during the playoffs, but registered six goals and five assists in four regular season games.
The Calgary, Alberta native was the Rush's second round pick (19th overall) in the 2014 NLL Draft after a standout career at Marquette in which he garnered USILA All-America recognition as a senior. He ended his MU career with a then-program record 89 points in just two seasons of action.
