MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's soccer team dropped its second overtime contest of the season in the form of 2-1 loss to Minnesota in the 94th minute on Friday evening at Valley Fields.
Redshirt senior Molly Pfeiffer posted the lone goal for the Golden Eagles (2-3-0) in the 79th minute to tie the match and send the game to an extra frame, but the Gophers capitalized just under four minutes into overtime.
Senior defender Haley Helverson tallied the game winner on a solo effort from 27 yards out as the Gophers (3-1-1) maintained the pace of play in the overtime period. Minnesota recorded all three shots in overtime, with two shots on net.
Pfeiffer's scoring effort came on a header which bounced past Minnesota goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs off a Jacie Jermier corner kick. The goal was Pfeiffer's team-best third marker of the season, while the assist was Jermier's first of the year.
U of M was first to reach the scoreboard on Friday evening on an April Bockin goal in the 17th minute on a ball which was played ahead by teammate Maddie Gaffney.
Marquette returns to action on Friday, Sept. 11 at Valley Fields in the Marquette Invitational against Northern Arizona at 8:15 p.m.
