MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's soccer team will be back in action on Friday, April 8, playing host to UW-Milwaukee at Valley Fields in the 11th Annual Bob Summy Classico game. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
Bob Summy was a respected and loyal supporter of both the Golden Eagle and Panther programs prior to his passing in 2005. Each year since his death, the two teams have met in a spring friendly in his honor.
Marquette and Milwaukee have a storied history, meeting every fall for a chance to win the coveted Milwaukee Cup trophy. The Panthers hold the all-time series edge with a mark of 28-11-4 in regular season games, but the Golden Eagles are 2-1-1 over the previous four meetings and were able to retain possession of the cup last fall thanks to a 1-1 draw at Engelmann Stadium, which followed a 2-0 shutout win at Valley Fields in 2014.
In their spring home openers last Saturday, April 2, Marquette drew even with in-state foe Green Bay, 0-0, in the morning match before dispatching another in-state opponent, UW-Parkside, 4-0, in the nightcap. MU began the spring competition slate back on Feb. 19 with a 3-1 loss to Northwestern in a match played indoors.
The Golden Eagles have cancelled their Alumni Game, which was scheduled for April 16, and will next play host to the MKE Torrent on April 23.
