Madden lifts Marquette over Creighton, 3-0

MILWAUKEE - Redshirt junior Carrie Madden notched her second two-goal performance of the season and Abby Hess also scored in Marquette's 3-0 win over Creighton on Sunday afternoon at a rainy Valley Fields.

Madden's goals came in the fourth and 63rd minutes for the Golden Eagles (11-6-1, 4-4 BIG EAST), who posted a 32-16 advantage in shots. Marquette's victory gave it a crucial three points in the BIG EAST standings and locked up a conference tournament quarterfinal berth against a yet-to-be determined foe.

McKenzie Meola made 15 saves in net for the Bluejays (3-11-3, 1-5-2 BIG EAST), while Marquette's Maddy Henry countered with four for her eighth clean sheet of the season.

Madden's first goal came on a header off a free kick from senior defender Madison Dunker who served the ball into the box from the midfield. Her second goal was unassisted from 20 yards out on a ball misplayed by Meola at the left post.

Abby Hess posted her second career goal in the 85th minute off a ball chipped ahead by Hailey VanDerLeest after it was settled by Jamie Kutey.

The match was Marquette's annual 'Kick for a Cure' contest in support of the American Cancer Society. The Golden Eagles wore long sleeve pink uniforms, nine of which are up for auction on GoMarquette.com with proceeds slated for the American Cancer Society.

Marquette next travels to South Orange, New Jersey for a Thursday match against Seton Hall in the BIG EAST regular season finale.
