MADISON, Wis. - The Marquette University men's soccer team dug itself a hole as Wisconsin tallied three first-half goals en route to a 3-0 home victory on Wednesday at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles (1-8-1) saw few opportunities on the night, firing off just seven shots to UW's five, while putting three on target. The Badgers (7-2-2) converted all three of their first-half shot attempts in the first half hour of play.
Wisconsin got on the board in the fifth minute, benefitting from a flurry of corner kick attempts. On the third one in succession, UW was able to find the back of the net on Tom Barlow's fifth goal of the year as he chested it in from few yards out.
Marquette's best chance came in the final minute when Diego NÃÆ'Æ'ºÃÆ'Æ'±ez headed one that ricocheted off the crossbar. Luka Prpa and Griffin Jende tied with a team-best two shots with one each falling on target.
The Badgers remained unbeaten at home in their last 19 tries (16-0-3) with their previous home loss coming to Marquette back in 2015.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 7, playing host to Providence at Valley Fields for a Homecoming and Alumni Day match-up. Kickoff is set for 1:05 p.m.
