MILWAUKEE -- The No. 23/23 Marquette University women's basketball team led by as many as 67 points as it downed Loyola Chicago, 92-30, in its MPS Day matinee at the Al McGuire Center on Tuesday.
The 62-point win on Tuesday marked a program record for largest margin of victory as the Golden Eagles surpassed the previous record of 56 points in a victory over Ball State, 97-41, back on Dec. 21, 1993.
The Golden Eagles (3-2) were led by four players in double-digit scoring, while every available player saw action and 12 MU players reached the scoring column. Junior Amani Wilborn led the way with 19 points and was one rebound shy of her first career double-double. Junior Erika Davenport poured in 14 points while juniors Danielle King and Allazia Blockton tallied 13 points apiece.
Marquette dominated the Ramblers through the first two frames. MU allowed Loyola Chicago just 12 total points, including one in the second quarter alone, to go on a 28-1 run. Marquette owned a commanding 45-point lead at halftime with three players posing double-digit scoring.
The third quarter followed suit as MU led by as many as 60 points and held Loyola Chicago to without a field goal as it scored just five points. Loyola Chicago came out aggressive in the final quarter of play, tallying back-to-back threes to open the frame, but Marquette regained tempo and held the sizable lead until the final horn.
Marquette held Loyola Chicago to just 20 percent from the field and 16 percent from beyond the arc. MU scored 56 of its points in the paint with 41 points coming from the bench.
The Ramblers (0-5) were led by Abby O'Connor's 11 points and five rebounds.
Marquette will travel northbound for an instate matchup against Green Bay on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. Central time.
