MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's tennis squad faced its first BIG EAST opponent of the season on Friday and fell in a 6-1 decision to St. John's.
The Golden Eagles (4-3) fought hard through doubles, but ultimately dropped the first point of the match. Sophomore Courtney Hebard and freshman Fleur Eggink teamed at the No. 2 position and played to a 7-6 decision.
The lone points for Marquette came from Eggink as she prevailed with an easy 6-3, 6-2 decision in the No. 4 position in singles play.
Marquette will have one week off and return on Saturday, Feb. 25 to host Minnesota at 11 a.m. Central time at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
