
MU Sweeps DePaul, 3-0

MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette women's volleyball team continued its winning ways on Saturday as the squad topped DePaul, 3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 30-28), winning its sixth straight match, having dropped just one set in that stretch of play.
The Golden Eagles (11-5, 5-0) were led by sophomore Allie Barber with 20 kills at a .594 clip, followed by Anna Haak (11 kills) and Jenna Rosenthal (nine kills, three blocks). In her first start, Sarah Rose tallied her first career double-double as she dished out a career-high 41 assists, collected 15 digs and posted two service aces.
Defensively, Marquette collected 63 digs as a squad with four players in double digits; Rose's 15, freshman Martha Konovodoff had 13, classmate Hope Werch added 12 and senior Manon Geoffroy recorded 11 digs. DePaul (7-10, 1-4) was held to just 47 team digs.
After trailing in the first set 7-2, MU turned it around with a 15-4 run to take a 17-11 lead, which held with a 25-19 victory. The Golden Eagles easily handled DePaul in the second frame, 25-9, but the Blue Demons took a quick 3-1 lead in the third set and kept MU close in their sights. The final set ended in an exciting 30-28 finish where Barber completed three consecutive kills to bring MU within one point, 28-27, tie things up at 28 and take the victory.
Brittany Maxwell led DePaul with 11 kills and Kelsey Horvath handed out a team-high 16 assists.
Marquette hit at a .365 clip while holding the Blue Demons to just a .169 hitting percentage to own the edge offensively.
The Golden Eagles will remain at home for the next two matches, hosting No. 14 Creighton on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. Central time. That match will air on Spectrum Sports locally.
