
WSOC hosts No. 4 Georgetown Thursday for Breast Cancer Awareness Night

The Golden Eagles will face the Hoyas and Creighton this weekend
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's soccer team hosts No. 4 Georgetown on Thursday, Oct. 18 at Valley Fields before heading to Omaha, Nebraska to take on Creighton on Sunday afternoon.
Both matches will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network through FOX Sports Go. Patrick Reed will handle the 7 p.m. kickoff in Milwaukee on Thursday against the Hoyas, while Jake Ryan and Jon Schriner will be on the call from Morrison Stadium against the Bluejays.
Marquette will wear pink kits in support of the fight against breast cancer during its Thursday match and MU's chapter of Colleges Against Cancer will be on hand to accept donations for the American Cancer Society. All fans wearing pink will receive free admission at the Valley Fields ticket office.
The Golden Eagles (3-10-2, 1-4-1 BIG EAST) suffered a 3-0 defeat at Xavier on Sunday afternoon in their last contest, despite six saves from junior goalkeeper Maddy Henry. Freshman midfielder Katrina Wetherell fired a match-high five saves, including three on frame as keeper Toni Bizzarro made eight stops for the Musketeers. Xavier's Samantha Dewey recorded a goal and an assist on the day for XU's first series win over Marquette.
Henry has started all 15 matches in net for Marquette and has been joined in the starting lineup every game by Wetherell and fellow juniors Bri Jaeger and Emily Hess. Alyssa Bombacino's three goals lead the way for MU, while Wetherell sits just behind her with five points on a goal and three assists.
Fourth-ranked Georgetown (13-0-2, 6-0-0 BIG EAST) has allowed just five goals over 15 matches for the third-best goals against average in all NCAA Division I (0.32). The Hoyas also lead the BIG EAST with 2.27 goals per game and are paced by the league's leading scorer in Caitlin Farrell, who ranks third in the country with 14 goals in 2018.
GU owns a pair of wins over ranked teams with a 2-0 victory over No. 14 West Virginia on Sept. 2 and a 2-1 overtime triumph against then-No. 25 Princeton on Sept. 13. In six BIG EAST matchups, Georgetown has outscored its opponents, 18-1, with the lone conceded goal coming in a 7-1 win at Creighton on Oct. 4.
The Golden Eagles are 3-6-1 all-time against the Hoyas, which includes losses in each of the last two BIG EAST tournaments. Marquette captured the 2012 BIG EAST tournament crown over the Hoyas, 1-0, and won 4-0 in 2013 before beginning a run that has seen MU go 0-4-1 against GU. Marquette's last goal in the series came in a 2-2 draw on Oct. 18, 2015, a drought that has lasted 377:06.
Creighton (6-8, 3-3 BIG EAST) enters the weekend on the heels of consecutive conference victories over Seton Hall, 2-1, and Villanova, 1-0, in its last two contests.CU will also face Butler in Indianapolis on Thursday evening before returning to Omaha.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Katie Sullivan picked up her second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor of the year after posting six saves in the 1-0 win over the Wildcats. Junior Taryn Jakubowski scored the lone goal against on a penalty kick after Kaira Houser drew a foul in the box in the 55th minute.
Marquette is 5-3-1 all-time against the Bluejays, including a 4-1 mark since CU joined the BIG EAST in 2013. Carrie Madden scored twice and Abby Hess added the match's final tally in a 3-0 victory over Creighton at Valley Fields last season in a match that Marquette outshot CU, 32-16.
Following this weekend's action, Marquette will wrap up regular season play against Seton Hall on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Valley Fields.
