
Golden Eagles Conclude Regular Season at Illini Open

Marquette was led by Mary Rose Flood and Max McClelland on Friday in Champaign
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams concluded the regular season at the Illini Open hosted by the University of Illinois on Friday.

The Golden Eagles ran at the University of Illinois Arboretum where the men placed third led by Max McClelland in 17th place, while the women placed fifth paced by Mary Rose Flood's 10th overall finish.

Flood led a women's team of 10 competitors that all placed in the top-50. Finishing second on the team was Hannah Gorin in 18th overall, followed by Anna Buckstaff (31st), Kalina Gardiner (36th), Brynn LiaBraaten (37th), Grace Dargiewicz (42nd) and Sydney Pitrof (43rd) to comprise the top-seven scorers.

On the men's side, McClelland finish just in front of Danny Peterson, who came in 20th overall. He was followed by Jordan Janusiak (23rd), Stephen Poorten (31st), Joshua Urban (34th), Derek Gross (39th) and Patrick Burns (48th) to highlight the top-seven finishers in a squad of 11 entries.

The Golden Eagles now enter the postseason portion of their schedule as they gear up for the BIG EAST Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27, hosted by Butler in Carmel, Indiana. After that will be the NCAA Great Lakes Regional will on Nov. 9, followed by the NCAA Championships, hosted by UW-Madison on Nov. 17.
