Jenna Rosenthal leads the Golden Eagles with 11 kills, Allie Barber adds 10
CHICAGO – No. 19 Marquette University volleyball team completed its fourth consecutive sweep on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-14, 27-25, 25-14) win over DePaul at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
Marquette (14-4, 5-1) was led by redshirt senior Jenna Rosenthal with 11 kills and a .450 hitting percentage, while junior Allie Barber added 10 kills and classmate Madeline Mosher landed seven kills with just one error to hit .500.
Junior Lauren Speckman joined sophomore Sarah Rose to dish out 21 and 14 assists, respectively, as sophomore Martha Konovodoff collected 16 digs.
"It was great to see Hope, Madeline and Elizabeth combine for around a .480 hitting on a night where DePaul did a nice job slowing down Allie's (Barber) normal pace and it was great to see Jenna have good back-to-back matches," head coach Ryan Theis said.
The Golden Eagles cruised to a 25-14 victory in the first set, outhitting DePaul .385 to just a .086 mark as Werch and Rosenthal landed four kills apiece. DePaul came out hot in the second frame and led Marquette 23-22, but two kills from Barber put the Golden Eagles in position with set point at 24-23. The Blue Demons scored two consecutive to reach set point at 25-24, but a kill from Barber and a miscue by DePaul gave the Golden Eagles the 27-25 victory to go ahead 2-0 in the match.
In the third set, MU hit a match-best .464 hitting percentage with just three errors leading to a 25-14 win, completing a sweep over the Blue Demons (4-13, 2-4). The Golden Eagles finished the day hitting .365 with five service aces.
DePaul was led by Donna Brown with 11 kills, just one error and a .556 mark, while Avarie Evans-Allen tallied seven kills with no errors and hit .583.
Marquette has another short turnaround and will host Butler on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. Central time.
