
Prep Standout Dexter Akanno Signs With Marquette

The Marquette University men's basketball team has added prep guard Dexter Akanno to the roster for the 2019-20 campaign, head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Thursday afternoon.

Akanno, a 6-4, 200-pounder, will arrive on campus next summer and have four seasons of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.

"We are thrilled to have Dexter and his family join the Marquette family," Wojciechowski said. He is a tremendous worker, student of the game and has great potential. We can't wait to have him on campus next year."

Akanno averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a senior at Valencia (Calif.) High School in 2017-18. The Vikings advanced to the semifinals of the CIF-SS Division 2A playoffs and Akanno was named All-Santa Clara Valley First Team.

He is currently attending prep school at Blair Academy in New Jersey this season.

As a junior, Akanno earned Foothill League Co-Player of the Year accolades after averaging a team-best 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in league play. He helped guide his team to a share of the league title in 2016-17.
