Marquette Faces No. 2/2 Kansas In NIT Season Tip-Off

ESPN2 to feature 6 p.m. CT broadcast Wednesday Night
The Marquette University men's basketball team (3-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) heads to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, to participate in the NIT Season Tip-Off. The Golden Eagles will open play at 6 p.m. CT against No 2/2 Kansas (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and ESPN2 will feature the television coverage, with Tom Hart (play-by-play) and Fran Fraschilla (analyst) calling the action. Based on Wednesday's results, MU will face No. 5/5 Tennessee or Louisville on Friday night at 6 or 8 p.m. CT.
While its been almost 20 years since the program was in the event's field, the Golden Eagles did find success in their recent trip to the Barclays Center, winning the title at the 2015 Legends Classic. MU downed No. 22 LSU and Ben Simmons in the semifinals before claiming an overtime win against Arizona State in the title game.
MU fell to No. 6 Duke 87-74 to open the 1990-91 campaign and 10 years later came up short against South Alabama, 67-54, in the 2000-01 season lidlifter.
The Golden Eagles are 1-6 all-time against Kansas, with the most recent coming in New Orleans in the 2003 Final Four. The No. 6 Jayhawks were able to claim the victory in the final game of Dwyane Wade's collegiate career.
Marquette's lone win over Kansas came in the 1974 national semifinals when No. 3 MU downed No. 6 Kansas, 64-51, in Greensboro, N.C. Marquette fell to NC State in the championship game, but would return in 1977 to claim the national title in Al McGuire's final game as head coach.
The Golden Eagles have met Louisville nearly 70 times and were at one point fellow members of the BIG EAST Conference, Conference USA and others. Marquette has claimed five of the eight all-time matchups with Tennessee, most recently downing the Volunteers in the 2014 Old Spice Classic in Coach Wojciechowski's first season.
The Montreal, Quebec, native scored 13 of his personal-best 16 points in the second half against the Blue Hose, helping key a late run that allowed MU to pull away for the victory. He finished 6-of-7 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from long distance, and also found time to dish out five assists and grab five rebounds in almost 24 minutes of action.
Fortunately for MU, over the course of the final 13 minutes the Golden Eagles would outscore Presbyterian 37-12 to pull way for the 19-point victory. Joey Hauser, Joseph Chartouny and Markus Howard knocked down treys on three-straight possessions and Marquette took a lead it wouldn't surrender the rest of the afternoon.
The Stevens Point, Wisconsin, native has posted impressive numbers in each of the team's outings this year, especially the last two. Against Indiana and Presbyterian, Hauser averaged 15.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 13-of-13 from the charity stripe. He netted a personal-best 18 points at Indiana and was a result was rewarded with his first career start on Saturday afternoon.
MU Making Third Trip To NIT Tip-Off

Chartouny Helps MU Pull Away From Blue Hose
