Stern, Seagrist Honored in Final Edition of BIG EAST Weekly Awards

NEW YORK – Freshman Cedrik Stern was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, while Patrick Seagrist earned a spot on the honor roll in the season's final edition of weekly awards, the league office announced on Monday.

Stern filled in during senior Luis Barraza's absence in the regular season finale against DePaul and did so admirably in a 2-0 victory. The Freidberg, Germany, native played all 90 minutes and made nine saves, including eight in the second half, en route to his first career victory and clean sheet.

Seagrist picked up his fourth weekly honor of the season, including his first honor roll nod to go along with three Defensive Player of the Week awards. It also marked the third-straight week with a weekly honor.

The recently named All-BIG EAST First Team selection tallied an assist on Lukas Sunesson's insurance goal in the 31st minute. The Streamwood, Illinois, native was instrumental in the team's BIG EAST Championship quarterfinal win in penalties on Saturday as well. He assisted on both Marquette goals during regulation. The game remained tied after 110 minutes before the Golden Eagles would win in penalties, 7-6. Seagrist converted his penalty try in the second of nine rounds.

Marquette is gearing up for its BIG EAST semifinal match-up against top-seeded and No. 14-ranked Creighton on Wednesday in Omaha. Kickoff is slated for 7:05 p.m. Central time.
