
19/16 Marquette Opens Six-Game Homestand Against Green Bay

MILWAUKEE – The No. 19/16 Marquette women's basketball team opens a six-game homestand on Saturday, welcoming Green Bay to the Al McGuire Center. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. CT and will stream for free on GoMarquette.com.
Chris Reisner (play-by-play), Jenny Fischer (analyst) and John Steppe (analyst) will call the action from the sidelines.
The Golden Eagles (7-2) toppled Northwestern on Dec. 9, 76-57, in Evanston. It was a record-breaking game as senior Allazia Blockton became Marquette's all-time scoring leader, surpassing Krystal Ellis' record of 1,940 points. Blockton currently sits at 1,946 career points in 106 total games.
Saturday marks the 44th meeting between the two programs with the Phoenix owning a 35-8 record in the all-time series, including a streak of six consecutive games.
A short turnaround will follow as Marquette will host Binghamton on Monday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. CT.

MU and Green Bay own a few common opponents as the Phoenix opened the 2018-19 campaign with a 57-55 home loss to Northwestern and followed with a 73-64 loss to fellow BIG EAST squad, DePaul. Green Bay has also faced South Dakota State taking a 77-47 loss on the road.

STORYLINES
- Allazia Blockton is now Marquette women's basketball's all-time leading scorer. At the 4:18 mark of the fourth quarter at Northwestern the Milwaukee native made history. She has amassed 1,946 career points in 106 game and is on pace to become the first Golden Eagle, male or female, to reach 2,000 career points.
- Marquette is currently the only program is the country with five active 1,000-point scorers. Blockton (1,946) is joined by Natisha Hiedeman (1,292), Erika Davenport (1,267), Amani Wilborn (1,107) and King (1,088). Soon, No. 2 Notre Dame will also earn the distinction as it has four active 1,000-point scorers and a fifth (Jackie Young) just 52 points away (entering Saturday). Both teams will meet on Dec. 22 at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee.
- Danielle King fell one-point shy of her career-high (28 points) in a loss at No. 6 Mississippi State. She shot 13-of-21 from the field as Marquette shot 33-of-61 (54.1 percent), including 8-of-21 from long distance, as a team. Amani Willborn collected her second double-double of the season (and career) with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
- Blockton is up for two major awards. She was recently named by the WBCA Wade Trophy Watch List as one of 35 candidates in the country under consideration for the nation's top Division I women's basketball player. She is also one of 30 finalists for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, which focuses on both on-and-off the court accomplishments and encourages student-athletes to use their platforms in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
- Two long-standing records were broken in the Nov. 28 win over UW-Milwaukee. Blockton set the career record for made field goals with her fifth basket of the game late in the second quarter, passing Julie Sievers' 35-year-old mark of 717 made baskets. Meanwhile, Natisha Hiedeman, also in the second quarter, eclipsed Lori Goerlitz's 23-year-old career mark for 3-pointers made (221) as she knocked down four triples. She now has a career total of 230.
- King became Marquette's fifth active player to reach the 1,000-career points mark with her 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter of MU's win over Montana State on Nov. 9.
- Marquette ranks among the nation's leaders in several categories, including scoring offense (85.6 ppg – 11th) and scoring margin (+24.2 ppg – 11th). In addition to ranking 20th in assists per game (19.3), MU is 12th in assist/turnover ratio (1.37). The team is also 20th in field goal percentage (47.1).
- Individually, Hiedeman ranks 10th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio (3.53). She also ranks 29th in assists per game (5.9) and 25th in total assists (53), while Blockton is 52nd in points per game (19.1).
