EVANSTON, Ill.--History was made on Sunday as junior Allazia Blockton became Marquette's all-time scoring leader, while the No. 18/15 Golden Eagles toppled Northwestern, 76-57 at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Â
Blockton entered the game needing 16 points to break the record of 1,940 career points, set by Krystal Ellis ('09). She finished the day with 21 points and has amassed 1,946 points in 106 career games played, likely to become the first 2,000-point scorer in Marquette history, male or female.
Â
Blockton's 21 points led Marquette (7-2), while classmate Natisha Hiedeman recorded her third career double-double with a 17-point, 15-rebound effort, also dishing out six assists. Amani Wilborn was also in double digits with 10 points.
Â
The Golden Eagles pressed Northwestern (5-3) with their usually up-tempo style, scoring 21 points off fast break attempts and connecting on 30-of-70 shots (42.9 percent) and also pressured the Wildcast down low with 48 of their 76 points coming in the paint.
Â
The first half was a game of scoring runs as MU allowed Northwestern to close out the first half with a scoring run, but the Golden Eagles opened the third quarter with a run of their own, jumping to a 47-36 lead after a 13-2 run over three minutes heading into the media timeout.
Â
MU's largest lead was the margin of victory and the squad never trailed the Wildcats.
Â
The Golden Eagles will be off for finals week and return to the court on Saturday, Dec. 15 as the squad hosts Green Bay. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CT.
