Women's Lax Takes Down Cincinnati in BIG EAST Opener

MILWAUKEE - A capacity crowd filled the Valley Dome on Saturday as the Marquette University women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten at home, taking down Cincinnati, 19-15, for a BIG EAST Conference opening victory.
A back-and-forth affair early on, the Golden Eagles (5-4, 1-0 BIG EAST) scored the final four goals of the first half to take a 10-8 halftime lead and never looked back. Grace Gabriel led the way offensively with her second sock trick of the season, tying her career-high and the program record.

Charlotte McGuire scored four times, while Allison Lane, Megan Menzuber, and Riley Hill each notched a hat trick as the prolific MU offense flexed its muscles once again. Cate Soccodato dished out a career-high seven helpers, tying Claire Costanza's ('17) program record set in 2015.
Gabriel and Lane combined for 15 draw controls, while Lindsey Willcocks added a career-high five draws. Lane and Julianna Horning tied for the team-lead with six ground balls. Horning added nine saves in the win, while her counterpart Giuliana Durso tallied 11 stops.
Marquette improved to 4-1 all-time in BIG EAST openers and 5-0 at home this season. Additionally, the Golden Eagles move back over the .500 mark overall.

MU outshot the Bearcats (6-2, 0-1 BIG EAST), 47-28, while also holding the edge in draw controls (21-15) and ground balls (27-23).
Cincinnati was led by Sam Mlkvy four goals, while McKenna Rushford added three scores. The league's second-leading scorer entering play, Monica Borzillo, was held to just two goals and an assist.
The Golden Eagles next travel to Villanova to take on the Wildcats on Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m. CT.
