Men’s lacrosse adds a pair of talented transfers to the roster for 2019
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University head coach Joe Amplo has announced the addition of transfers Andrew Romagnoli and John Hulsman to the men's lacrosse team, each of whom will be eligible for the 2019 season.
Romagnoli, an attackman, returns to Milwaukee as a graduate transfer after beginning his career at Marquette in 2015 when he redshirted as a true freshman before heading to Delaware. Goalie John Hulsman joins the Golden Eagles after playing against Marquette in 2017 as a freshman at Bellarmine. Hulsman will have three years of eligibility remaining in Blue & Gold.
Romagnoli (Cazenovia, New York/University of Delaware) posted 91 points on 60 goals and 31 assists in 34 career games with the Blue Hens in just over two seasons of competition. He scored 21 goals as a redshirt freshman in 2016 and set a single-game career-high with six goals against VMI while earning CAA All-Freshman Team honors. Romagnoli followed that up with a 34-goal, 53-point campaign in 2017 and posted seven points in five games as a redshirt junior last season. The 5-foot-11 attackman finished the 2017 season second in the CAA with 3.53 points per game and recorded seven hat tricks that year.
Romagnoli attended the same high school, Christian Brothers Academy, as current Golden Eagles Jack Zerrillo and Jace Whelan, and was a classmate of Zerrillo.
Hulsman (Baltimore/Bellarmine University) joins Marquette after a standout freshman season at Bellarmine in which he earned All-Southern Conference First Team accolades after leading the league in save percentage (.589), goals against average (8.69) and saves per game (12.56). Those marks also ranked the 6-foot-2 goalie among the leaders in NCAA Division I as his save percentage mark ranked fourth nationally and he was 13th in goals against. Hulsman, who recorded double-digit saves in all but one game as a freshman, made 13 saves and allowed just six goals against Marquette in a 7-6 double-overtime victory on March 4.
The Golden Eagles must replace one starter (goalie Cole Blazer) from a 2018 squad that went 6-8 and fell to then-No. 3 Denver in the 2018 BIG EAST Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship.
