Golden Eagles take on No. 16 Baylor on Saturday evening
WACO, Texas—The Marquette women's volleyball team picked up its second straight sweep with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-14) victory over LSU on Saturday afternoon at the 2018 Hampton Inn & Suites Baylor Invitational. Both teams are receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll.
Redshirt senior Jenna Rosenthal led Marquette (2-0) with 12 kills, no errors for a stellar .522 hitting percentage, while junior Allie Barber tallied 11 kills. Sharing setting duties once again, junior Lauren Speckman and sophomore Sarah Rose handed out 16 and 15 assists respectively.
Defensively, sophomore Martha Konovodoff's 15 digs led three in double digits as senior Anna Haak and Rose collected 10 apiece. This was the second career double-double for Rose.
"It was nice to get into some close fights in the first two sets and be able to finish them off," head coach Ryan Theis said. "I think that can give us some confidence moving forward that we know we can close games. I thought we served great today, players were not only accurate and hitting their spots, but they were bringing velocity."
The Golden Eagles hit .320 combined in the match, including a strong .458 mark in the third frame with no errors. LSU (0-2) was led by Taylor Bannister with a match-high 14 kills.
Marquette will have a tough challenge this evening as the Golden Eagles face host and No. 16 Baylor at the Ferrell Center at 7 p.m. Central time to conclude the tournament.
