
RV Marquette Drops a 3-1 Match at No. 16 Baylor

Lauren Speckman earns best setter award; Martha Konovodoff is best defensive player
WACO, Texas – The battle was tough, but the Marquette University volleyball team could not overtake No. 16 Baylor on its home court, falling 3-1 (31-33, 27-25, 17-25, 22-25) on Saturday night to conclude the 2018 Hampton Inn & Suites Baylor Invitational.
Junior Allie Barber led Marquette (2-1) with 19 kills, while senior Anna Haak recorded her first double-double of the season with 16 kills and 16 digs and classmate Jenna Rosenthal tallied 10 kills.
Defensively, sophomore Martha Konovodoff led four Golden Eagles in double digit digs with 22, while Lauren Speckman collected 12 to go along with 31 assists and her first double-double of the campaign. Sophomore Hope Werch notched 10 digs.
In addition to Speckman, sophomore Sarah Rose was strong at setter tonight handing out 27 assists. Rosenthal and junior Madeline Mosher put up four and three blocks, respectively.
Baylor (3-0) was led by Yossiana Pressley with a match-high 20 kills in the evening. At the conclusion of the tournament Speckman was named Best Setter and Konovodoff earned Best Defender.
Marquette will be back on the road for the second week of play, traveling to Saint Louis on Friday, Aug. 31 to take on Kansas State at 3:30 p.m. Central time.
