Freshman Lukas Sunesson's two-goal performance earns BIG EAST weekly accolades

MILWAUKEE – Freshman Lukas Sunesson scored twice in Marquette's season opening victory over Valparaiso on Sunday and, today, was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll.

The Taby, Sweden, native celebrated a dream start to his career with two goals in his collegiate debut, which resulted in a 3-1 win over Valpo. His first career goal came in the 53rd minute and served as the match winner before he followed up with an insurance tally in the 85th minute.

He finished the game with four shots, including three on goal, in 69 minutes of action. Marquette takes its 1-0 record and a new No. 22 ranking, according to Top Drawer Soccer, into Thursday's match against Central Arkansas.

The Golden Eagles and Bears kick off at 7:05 p.m. Central time at Valley Fields.
