Leah Celarek earns BIG EAST weekly honors

Celarek scored the first goal in Marquette’s 2-1 win at Drake on Sunday
NEW YORK – Senior midfielder Leah Celarek of the Marquette University women's soccer team earned recognition on the BIG EAST Conference's Weekly Honor Roll for her play in a 2-1 victory at Drake on Sunday afternoon.
The Schaumburg, Illinois native helped the Golden Eagles to their first victory of the season and scored the second goal of her career and her first since 2016 against Xavier. She fired a total of nine shots, including four on frame, against the Bulldogs and in Thursday's match against Colorado.
Celarek has started all seven matches for Marquette in the midfield this season and has played 423 minutes. The weekly honor is the first of her career in Blue & Gold.
Marquette will play its next three matches at Valley Fields, with home dates against BYU (Sept. 14), Milwaukee (Sept. 17) and the BIG EAST Conference opener against Butler on Sept. 23.
