CREIGHTON (8-4): No. 10 Creighton fell to No. 8 University of Illinois at the Illini Classic in Champaign, Ill. last Saturday, 3-1. Taryn Kloth led CU in the last match with 23 kills, with teammate Brittany Witt tallying 26 digs. Creighton's eight wins to start the season are its most in non-conference play since 2013.
The last time the Bluejays and the Golden Eagles faced off was in the BIG EAST Championship Final in November, which was a hard fought 3-2 loss for Marquette. Jenna Rosenthal and Allie Barber both tallied 18 kills against the top-seeded Creighton. The Golden Eagles are 4-14 all-time against the Bluejays and split the season series last year.
WHAT THE TEAM IS SAYING:
On the BIG EAST this season…
"League play is underway, and I think there will be a ton of parity this season. Villanova and Georgetown are off to 1-0 starts already, one was a five-game screamer and one was Villanova coming back late in the fourth to keep it from being a five-game screamer. Already two of the first games were nail biters, so we expect a lot of close matches. We are obviously scouted 12 matches into the season and nobody knows us better than probably Creighton."
Playing at Creighton…
"It is a tough environment. They draw extremely well and have two senior left sides that are incredibly effective, but at the same time we have to pay attention to Providence too. They return everybosy from a team that finished seventh last year and I know they are trying everything they can to make a conference tournament."
