Sarah Rose records a double-double
OMAHA, Neb. – The 21st ranked Marquette University volleyball team fell to No. 10 Creighton, 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-20) on Sunday afternoon at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha.
Junior Allie Barber led the Golden Eagles (10-4, 1-1) with 16 kills, while sophomore Sarah Rose tallied her third double-double of the season with 13 assists and 11 digs. Seniors Anna Haak and Jenna Rosenthal record eight and seven kills, respectively, while Haak also collected 12 digs. Junior Lauren Speckman dished out 20 assists and sophomore libero Martha Konovodoff had 20 digs in the match.
"I thought that might be the best serving team we have seen all year and we also served relatively well, but their passers handled it," head coach Ryan Theis said. "They were really good at bettering the ball and took aggressive swings today. We created bad passes from them, but they generated too many quality swings. We need to get better defensively and find a couple more points in order to get them when they come to our place next month."
Marquette dropped set one, 25-17 and regrouped in the second frame as the score was tied 15 times and showed four lead changes. The Golden Eagles led 23-21, but Creighton finished with a 5-1 run and won the set, 26-24. MU went down early in the third set and could not complete a comeback, falling, 25-20.
Taryn Kloth and Jaali Winters led Creighton (10-4, 2-0) with 16 and 15 kills, respectively, while the Bluejays totaled 7.5 team blocks and hit .322.
The Golden Eagles will head home for their BIG EAST homeopener and will host Georgetown on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. CT before welcoming Villanova on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.
