The Golden Eagles will compete among 30 teams and more than 300 runners in the Bluegrass State on Saturday
MILWAUKEE — After a two-week layoff, the Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete at the Greater Louisville Classic at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville on Saturday.
The men's varsity race (8 kilometers) will begin at 8:30 a.m. Central time, followed by the women's varsity race (5 Kilometers) at 9:15 a.m. The men's and women's open races will follow at 9:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., respectively.
At last year's meet, among more than 30 Division I teams and 300 entries, the women placed 15th overall, while the men took 18th. Jessica Parker led the women's side with a 41st place finish, while Jennifer Parker and Mary Hanson also turned in sub-18-minute times on the fast course to finish in the top-100.Â
On the men's side, Daniel Peterson was the team's top finisher, taking 74th overall, while Alec Miller and Aric Miller helped highlight the team's top-three.
The last time the Golden Eagles were in action was Sept. 14 at the Badger Classic where the heat played a factor in the challenging conditions. Despite those challenges, Jon Klaiber placed third overall and led the men's team for the second-straight week. The women were led by Mary Hanson and Nora Keller who placed in the top-20 overall.
Following Saturday's meet in the Bluegrass State, Marquette will venture closer to home as it travels to Peoria, Illinois to compete at the Bradley "Pink" Classic on Friday, Oct. 12.
