Former Marquette keeper hopes to hear his name called in Chicago on Friday
MILWAUKEE – The reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and former Marquette GK Luis Barraza has wrapped up his participation at the 2019 adidas MLS Player Combine in Orlando and headed to Chicago where he hopes to hear his name called in Friday's MLS SuperDraft 2019 presented by adidas.
The Santa Teresa, New Mexico, native closed out the combine in style. His key one-handed save (see at 1:07 mark) on MAC Hermann Trophy finalist, former Kentucky forward, and one of the top forwards in the draft, JJ Williams, on Wednesday secured a 2-0 shutout for his team.
"My experience at the combine, I think I handled it well," Barraza said. "I took advantage of the opportunities I had and did the best that I could. I walked away feeling good about my performances and I'm in a pretty good place right now going into tomorrow."
It was a lasting impression in a productive week for Barraza, who was the only goalkeeper to crack the top-10 in the vertical jump with a height of 32.5 inches – eighth-best among the 70 participants at the combine.
Rounds one and two of Friday's MLS SuperDraft will stream live at noon Central time on mlssoccer.com and the MLS app. Rounds three and four of the SuperDraft will be held via a conference call at a later date.

Barraza finished the season ranked in the top-10 among all Division I keepers in save percentage (.839) and saves per game (5.20). He ranked 21st overall in total saves (78) and compiled a 6-6-1 record in 13 starts. He's looking to join the likes of Axel Sjöberg (Colorado Rapids '15), Charlie Lyon (Seattle Sounders '15), Bryan Ciesiulka (Chicago Fire '14) and Calum Mallace (Montreal Impact '12)..@LuisBarrazaa turning some heads this week at the @adidassoccer @MLS Player Combine, ranking No. 8⃣ in the vertical jump🦘 with a height of 32.5 inches!
