The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series 54-32, including a sweep of the season series in 2017-18. MU has claimed the last three matchups in Omaha, including a 90-86 win in the most recent trip on Feb. 17, 2018. Forward Sacar Anim scored a career-high 26 points to lead the away in a game that guard Markus Howard played just 13 minutes (six points) in after leaving with an injury.
Â
Prior to 2013-14, the most recent meeting between the two programs came in the 1998 National Invitation Tournament. MU posted an 80-68 victory in the opening round at the BMO Harris Bradley Center en route to an appearance in the event's quarterfinals.
Â
Marquette has claimed each of the last five outings overall and 6-of-8 dating back to the 2014-15 campaign.
Â
Anim, who finished the game 9-of-14 from the floor, hadn't reached double figures in points in the previous five games and had scored only 19 total points combined in the team's last four outings.
Â
Against the Musketeers, Anim (20), guard Markus Howard (26) and forward Joey Hauser (18) accounted for 90.0 percent of Marquette's total points, including all of the squad's 35 points at halftime.
Â
Anim finished with double figures in points for the third time this season. He scored 16 points in the win over Kansas State and followed that up with a 14-point effort versus UTEP.
Â
Inserted into the starting lineup on Nov. 17, Hauser has reached double figures in 9-of-15 games and is currently contributing 10.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 51.0 percent from the floor overall and 47.5 percent from behind the 3-point line.
Â
Hauser earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolades on Jan. 7 for the second time after an impressive debut week in league play. He averaged 16.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in two contests and helped the Golden Eagles beat Xavier 70-52 with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor and five rebounds. For the week, he shot 63.2 percent from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Â
He and his brother Sam became the second pair of brothers ever to start in a BIG EAST game. The first sibling duo to be on the court for the opening whistle was Wally and Henry Ellenson for Marquette in 2015-16.
