John Wagner wins MLL Championship with Chesapeake

Wagner is the second former Golden Eagle to claim the Steinfeld Cup as a rookie
DENVER - Former Marquette University men's lacrosse player John Wagner helped the Chesapeake Bayhawks to the 2019 Major League Lacrosse championship with a 10-9 title game victory over Zachary Melillo's Denver Outlaws on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Wagner, the two-time reigning BIG EAST Conference Scholar-Athlete Sports Excellence Award winner for men's lacrosse, did not score on three shots in the championship game, but posted a goal in the semifinals against the Atlanta Blaze and former MU teammate Liam Byrnes, Brynes was honored as the MLL's Defensive Player of the Year over the weekend.
Wagner made his MLL debut on July 20 as an undrafted free agent and posted 13 points on nine goals and four assists in 2019. He was also selected by the New York Riptide in the National Lacrosse League Collegiate Draft on Sept. 17.
