PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – The Marquette University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 BIG EAST match to Providence on Saturday night at Chapey Field in Providence, Rhode Island.
Â
MU was led by sophomore goalkeeper Cedrik Stern, who tied a career-high with nine saves as he faced 25 shots from the Friars on the night.
PC scored the first goal of the game in the 40th minute off a goal from Davis Smith. His teammates Christopher Roman and Tiago Mendonca got credit for the assists.
Â
The Golden Eagles played a man down for final 40 minutes of the first half and all of the second half because redshirt sophomore defender Manuel Cukaj was ejected in the 10th minute for denying a goal scoring opportunity.
Â
The back line for MU did its best to keep the Friars away from the net, but PC's Esben Wolf put the game out of reach with an unassisted goal in the 58th minute.
Â
The Golden Eagles were outshot 9-0 in the first half and 25-2 on the game. Sophomore defender Josh Hancock had the lone shot on goal for MU in the second half.
Â
UP NEXT:
The Golden Eagles will head back to Milwaukee to prepare for another BIG EAST tilt, this time on the road at Villanova on Saturday, Oct. 19 at noon Central time. The game will be available for live streaming on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
