WASHINGTON, D.C.— The 12th-ranked Marquette University volleyball team completed its 10th sweep of the season with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-17) win over Georgetown on Saturday evening at McDonough Gymnasium.
Marquette (17-3, 7-1) once again had a stellar hitting night as the Golden Eagles combined for a blistering .516 hitting percentage in the match, highlighted by a .611 clip in the first frame. Senior Allie Barber tallied 11 kills with no errors to hit .524 leading MU, while Hope Werch connected on nine kills, no errors and hit .600. Freshman Hannah Vanden Berg had an efficient match with eight kills and a .636 clip.
Sophomore Claire Mosher dished out 23 assists as junior Martha Konovodoff collected 11 kills. Both Gwyn Jones and Elizabeth Orf totaled three blocks apiece.
"It was a good team win tonight," head coach Ryan Theis said. "Our offense was consistent and really executed what we worked on in practice this week. I thought our players made adjustments throughout the match that helped us get a few stops. We have a quick turnaround with traveling again this week and we will have to be quick and to-the-point at practice this week."
The Golden Eagles claimed a quick 25-15 victory in the first set and used a series of multiple scoring runs to dispatch the Hoyas easily in the second frame, 25-10. Georgetown came out fighting int the third frame, but efficient hitting from Marquette was again too much to handle. The Golden Eagles defense held the Hoyas to just a .083 mark in the 25-17 win.
Iva Vujosevic led the Hoyas (12-10, 2-6) with 11 kills as Jessica Cusi connected for nine digs.
Marquette will have another weekend on the road and travel back to the east coast to take on St. John's on Friday, Oct. 25 followed by Seton Hall on Saturday, Oct. 26.
