MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's golf team hosts its annual tournament, the Marquette Intercollegiate, on Oct. 6-8 at the Erin Hills Golf Course, home of the 117th U.S. Open Championship.
THE EVENT
The 12-team field features Wisconsin, UCLA, UC Davis, Purdue, Northwestern, Indiana, Liberty, USF, Georgia State, Miami (Ohio) and Ball State in addition to the host Golden Eagles. Northwestern has won the event in two of the last three seasons (2016 and 2018), while UCLA claimed top honors in 2014 and is making its sixth appearance. In total, nine teams (including MU) have previously competed in MU's home fall event.
The three-day tournament features 18 holes each day with play beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday and Monday, and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Live results will be available courtesy of Golfstat.
THE COURSE
The par-72 course is set to play at 7,515 yards, though yardage will vary daily as tee boxes change. In addition to Brooks Koepka's 2017 U.S. Open win, the course has also hosted the U.S. Amateur in 2011 and will host the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship in 2022 and the U.S. Women's Open in 2025.
Located 35 miles northwest of Milwaukee in the kettle moraine area of Washington County, the course was ranked as the No. 42 course in the United States by Golf Digest in January. Erin Hills officially opened in 1999 and its glaciated landscape features bentgrass greens and fine fescue fairways.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING…
Head coach Steve Bailey: "It's always exciting for our guys. We get the opportunity to get out there quite a bit and the opportunity to show off a quality course like Erin Hills and play in a good field is exciting. We're looking forward to the weekend. It's one of the biggest perks we have in our program, to be able to showcase a U.S. Open venue. We benefit from the reciprocity of it, trading out events. It's really helped us build out our schedule and for recruiting purposes as well. It's been a great carrot for our team and our guys in general to be able to go out and play a place like that a couple times a week is special."
Sophomore Connor Brown: "We're pretty lucky because Erin Hills is one of my favorite courses in the sense that it plays so different every single time you play. The last two years we've had our tournament there it's been almost a different course in terms of the weather and how firm it was. There's so many different tee boxes that you can move around and the wind changes almost hourly. So, depending on the conditions you are playing, each hole is almost a different hole every time you play."

Following Erin Hills, Marquette heads to Carmel, Indiana for the Crooked Stick Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 14-15. The tournament is jointly hosted by Indiana University and Purdue.
