
Eichhorn sits third after day one at Marquette Intercollegiate

ERIN, Wisconsin – Marquette University junior Hunter Eichhorn posted a 2-under-par 70 in the first round of the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills on Sunday afternoon and sits in third place heading into Monday's second round.
The Golden Eagles sit 11th on the team leaderboard with a 14-over 302 after a windy opening round. UCLA leads the field at 4-over (292) with defending champion Northwestern two strokes behind at 6-over. MU is just six strokes out of third place with the rest of the field bunched between 8- and 15-over par.
Eichhorn was all square through the front nine after posting a pair of birdies and bogeys on the front nine. The Carney, Michigan native birdied 10 and 11 after making the turn and notched his fifth and final birdie of the day on No. 18. His 70 is his sixth round of par or better through 10 rounds this season.
Sophomore Tyler Leach played even through the first eight holes before posting a bogey on the ninth. He ended his day 2-over on the back nine and 3-over (75) on the day to finish in a tie for 28th.
The second-best score by a Golden Eagle on Sunday was turned in by freshman Aidan Lafferty, playing in his second career event. Lafferty is tied for 19th at 2-over par (74) and offset three bogeys with a birdie on No. 15.
Tournament play at Erin Hills resumes at 9 a.m. on Monday with pairings on the first and 10th holes. Marquette is paired with Georgia State and Ball State and will head off No. 10 with freshman Bhoom Sima-Aree leading the way at 9:50 a.m.
