
Eichhorn jumps to first with 5-under 67 at Erin Hills

The Golden Eagles conclude their final round at Erin Hills on Tuesday at 8:50 a.m.

ERIN, Wisconsin – Junior Hunter Eichhorn fired a 5-under-par 67 second round on Monday to take the lead at the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills and Marquette University men's golf team sits seventh in the team standings.
The Golden Eagles (302-284—586), who started their round on the back nine, entered the day in 11th place and jumped four spots with sub-par rounds from Eichhorn (70-67—137) and senior Matt Murlick (80-71—151).
Eichhorn carded a bogey-free first nine holes and a total of six birdies on the day. His 67 tied him with Thomas Hutchinson of UC Davis for the daily low round and he sits one stroke ahead of Georgia State's Ashton Poole (-6, 69-69—138), with whom he is paired again on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
Eichhorn is in search of his second medalist honor this season and fourth of his career. The Carney, Michigan native placed third at last year's event after firing a final round 5-under 67, a low round at Erin Hills that he tied on Monday.
Sophomore Tyler Leach (75-72—147) is tied for 27th after posting an even par round that included a bogey-free first nine holes before making the turn to No. 1. He had three birdies offset three bogeys on the day.
Murlick fired a 1-under 71 with four birdies and is tied for 41st, while freshman Bhoom Sima-Aree shot a 2-over 74 on Monday.
Individually, freshman Aidan Lafferty (T17, 74-72—146) began his day on No. 1 and was 3-under for the round after posting MU's lone eagle on the 14th hole. The freshman sat tied for seventh in the tournament entering his final three holes, but turned in three bogeys to end the day with an even par 72 and 2-over for the event.
The Golden Eagles are paired with Liberty and Georgia State on Tuesday for round three and are set to head off No. 10 at 8:50 a.m.
Purdue (+3, 301-278—579) holds a one stroke lead on UCLA (+2, 292-288—580) and just four strokes separates the Boilermakers from USF in sixth place.
