ERIN, Wisconsin – Marquette junior Hunter Eichhorn claimed his second medalist honor this season on Tuesday at the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills, firing an even par 72 to finish with a 7-under par 209 (70-67-72).
The win is Eichhorn's fourth career victory and second in the last three tournaments after sharing medalist honors with USF's Albin Bergstrom at the Windon Memorial Classic on Sept. 16-17 at Conway Farms. Eichhorn had a one stroke lead entering Tuesday and was 1-under on the day heading into his final hole, No. 9. Gifford fired a bogey-free 3-under 69 on Tuesday to tie Eichhorn.
Purdue claimed the team championship with a 9-under par 855, while Northwestern (7-under, 857), team champion in 2016 and 2018, placed second and was one stroke shy of the tournament team record low round at 13-under par on Tuesday.
Senior Matt Murlick (80-71-72—223) joined Eichhorn with an even par 72 on Tuesday and tied with sophomore Tyler Leach (75-72-76—223) for 40th in the tournament at 7-over par.
In last year's event, Eichhorn finished third at 6-under par and his 7-under this year is tied for the fifth-best round in tournament history with Gifford, Arizona State's Alex del Rey (2018) and former Stanford golfer Patrick Rodgers (2013).
Marquette placed ninth as a team at 15-over par (302-284-293—879).
