Men's Tennis Returns To Action At Purdue

Golden Eagles send majority of roster to event
The Marquette University men's tennis team will head to West Lafayette, Ind. to compete in the Purdue Invitational this weekend, Frid. Sept. 20 – Sun. Sept. 22.
The event will feature Army, Ball State, Butler, Cardinal Stritch, Cleveland State, DePaul, Illinois State, IUPUI, Louisville, Marquette, MTSU, Niagara, Olivet, Purdue, Purdue NW, Toledo, Valparaiso, Wright State and Xavier.
"We are looking forward to getting another weekend of matches in and applying what we have been working on in practice to competition," assistant coach Jud Shaufler said. "The guys have been working extremely hard and we want those efforts to be rewarded with success."
The Golden Eagles will send Stefan Dragovic, Will Tennison, Brandon Shanklin, Nathan Balthazor, Julian Robinson, and Shaddy Khalafallah to compete in singles and doubles flights.
Action opens on Friday with one round of singles and two doubles rounds. On Saturday the field will focus on Singles before concluding play on Sunday.
Last weekend, Marquette opened their fall season at the University of Notre Dame, where the team grabbed multiple victories in both singles and doubles.
The team also sent seniors Luke Smrek and Brett Meyers to compete in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, each claiming at least one win the consolation bracket.
Following the weekend at Purdue, the Golden Eagles will head to East Lansing, Mich. from Frid. Oct. 11 – Sun. Oct. 13 to participate in the MSU Invite.
