Smrek, Meyers, Heredia Gomez, San Andres head to tourney

The Marquette University men's tennis team continues the fall portion of it's 2019-20 campaign this weekend at the Michigan State Invitational (Oct. 11-13).

The Golden Eagles will be represented at the event by four players: Luke Smrek, Brett Meyers, Luis Heredia Gomez and Fran San Andres. Also competing in the event are players from Michigan St., Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Illinois and DePaul.

The unique format features a 16-team doubles bracket and after the doubles matchup, the tandem will then play a pair of singles matchups against its opponent. The team that claims two of the three matches (doubles and one singles, or both singles), advances to the next round.

"We are looking forward to competing this weekend and continuing to improve as the fall season continues," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "The four guys we have playing were off last weekend, so they should be well rested and ready to play."
